Confidence may have been restored back in Ghanaians after concerns were raised about Ghana selling her birth rights to the US in the military deal that Ghana is supposed to earn $20m.
In a televised address from the Jubilee House in Accra, President Akufo Addo, who was breaking his silence on the military agreement assured Ghanaians that the sovereignty of the country is not for sale
” “I will never be the president that will compromise or sell the sovereignty of our country. I respect deeply the memory of the great patriots whose sacrifice and toil brought about our independence and freedom” the President said.
The President went on to describe as ignorant the decision by his political opponent to leak the document that was destined for Parliamentart approval to the media.
“We have to take issue with the frontline politicians who have sought to mislead the people in this blatant manner, and those who for mischievious purposes leaked the document that was destined for scrutiny of Parliament prematurely to a section of the media who then went on to describe it as a secret document”
“How could a document intended for the consideration of Parliament be described as a secret document”
President Akufo Addo was full of praise for the country’s democracy, adding that his administration intends to jelously guard it.
“We have a democracy that has become the beacon for good governance in Africa, a democracy that has survived for a quarter of a century and has encompassed even the most irresponsible epistles of ill-governance in a state of unity and stability”
