Genesis 19:24-26

_”Then the LORD rained down sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the LORD. So he overthrew those cities and all that region, including all the inhabitants of the cities and the vegetation that grew from the ground. But Lot’s wife looked back longingly and was turned into a pillar of salt.”_

How will you feel if you help someone to come out of a serious danger only for the person to return to the very place he was about to be destroyed? I believe you will be very disappointed. In much the same way, God does not take delight in us running back to the sinful life He has redeemed us from.

When Sodom and Gomorrah got burnt with fire and Sulphur, only four people escaped death; Lot, his wife and his two daughters. When the angels set them free to run, they cautioned them to make sure they never looked behind them or stopped anywhere else they would be destroyed. Unfortunately, Lot’s wife looked back longingly towards Sodom and she immediately turned into a pillar of salt.

Imagine a dear one of yours turning into a heep of salt right in front of you, how would you feel? Beloved, there is an important lesson for us to learn from this passage. Lot and his family were saved from destruction purely by the grace and mercy of God. However, it took their obedience to sustain their salvation.

As we learnt yesterday, Hell is real; God is going to judge us all and sinners will find themselves in hell fire. Through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, we have been saved. We have been saved by grace and not by works. However, after we have been saved, it is our obedience and righteous living that will sustain our salvation.

I want to admonish us all. If we truly profess that we have been saved from Satan and sin, why then do we look back and live the very sinful lives God has delivered us from.
Anyone who puts his hand to the plough and looks back, is not fit for the kingdom of God. Don’t look back.

Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times I returned to my past sinful life. Grant me the grace to completely close doors on my sinful past. Help me LORD, in Jesus name, amen.

_Question for Meditation_
What are some of the sins I have gone back to, though I have been saved?
