(The Man Called Abraham)

Genesis 14:21-23

_”Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and take the possessions for yourself.” But Abram replied to the king of Sodom, “I raise my hand to the LORD, the Most High God, Creator of heaven and earth, and vow that I will take nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal. That way you can never say, ‘It is I who made Abram rich.'”_

In our day and age, any opportunity to make money or amass wealth is considered a breakthrough. Many people are struggling because of inadequate income sources and will go every extent to make money. The quest for money drives humanity.

However, our Heavenly Father wants us to be very careful of the kind of opportunities we embrace in life. This is because some opportunities are traps in disguise meant to manipulate us according to human will.

Abraham had gone to fight on behalf of the people of Sodom because of his nephew, Lot. He helped them to be set free and recover their possessions. Humanly speaking, the king of Sodom made a ‘harmless’ offer, probably as an act of appreciation. He asked Abraham to release all the people of Sodom and take all their possessions.

Interestingly, Abraham rejected such a great offer. He said he refused to take even the strap of a sandal, lest the king would say he made Abraham rich. Beloved, some people have accepted some offers in life in exchange for their liberty. Some rich people seek to manipulate others who have received their offers.

Dear child of God, it is true God will use men to bless you. However, think carefully about the opportunities man may present to you. May God help us to discern our rightful helpers, amen.

Heavenly Father, please help me to discern what offers You send my way, those from the camp of the devil and those from manipulative men. Bless us LORD, in Jesus name, amen.

_Question for Meditation_
What do I have to consider before receiving any offer from man?
